South African talent again shines as Thuso Mbedu lands the lead role in a new highly anticipated film. The film in question is an adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s best-selling novel Children of Blood and Bone.

Thuso Mbedu will play Zélie, a courageous young woman fighting to restore magic to her oppressed people, according to Variety.

THE ALL-STAR CAST
British actor Tosin Cole will portray Tzain, Zélie’s protective older brother. Amandla Stenberg and Damson Idris take on the roles of Princess Amari and Prince Inan.
Chiwetel Ejiofor will play the complex King Saran, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The ensemble also boasts Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, and Regina King. King will star as the formidable Queen Nehanda.
A GRIPPING TALE
Director Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King) will helm the project.
“Our incredible ensemble reflects the whole of the diaspora,” Prince-Bythewood said. “This is where our magic lies.” She added that filming in South Africa would add authenticity to the story’s African roots.
Adeyemi’s novel is a gripping tale of adventure, identity, and rebellion. It draws heavily on Nigerian culture and Yoruba mythology.

The story follows Zélie as she fights against an oppressive monarchy that stripped her people of their magic. Her journey is a powerful allegory of resistance and resilience, according to Geeks Of Colour.
