According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), isolated showers and thundershowers are expected across several provinces this week, including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Free State, Northern Cape, and Western Cape.

In Gauteng, rain is anticipated throughout the week, with temperatures peaking in the low 20s in most areas. Johannesburg is forecasted to have a 60% chance of rain, with a maximum temperature of 19°C.

In Pretoria, cloudy and cool conditions are expected, along with isolated showers and thundershowers. Temperatures are predicted to reach a high of 21°C, from a minimum of 15°C for Monday.

Weather service says thundershowers should last the entire week

The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, which may lead to localized flooding in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and the Northern Cape. This warning indicates that severe thunderstorms could cause localized flooding in vulnerable areas, as well as damage to infrastructure, informal settlements, properties, vehicles, livelihoods, and livestock.

Overall, the weather predicts isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers this week in most parts of the country, with severe thunderstorms anticipated over central and eastern regions.

Last week, parts of KwaZulu-Natal experienced severe flooding, rendering multiple roads impassable. Tragically, at least one person has died as a result of the adverse weather conditions; the body of a woman was found in a river in Pinetown.

The weather predicts the thundershowers to persist until the weekend with temperatures expected to improve. In Gauteng and other surrounding provinces, no severe thunderstorms are expected in the week.
