‘This is our time to be strong against Chiefs’ – ex-Pirates captain

SuperSport United defender Thulani ‘Tyson’ Hlatshwayo has called on his team to bounce back after back-to-back losses against Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Matsatsantsa have had it tough this season, losing three of their opening five matches in the Betway Premiership. To add salt to injury, Gavin Hunt’s men were eliminated by both Chiefs and Pirates in cup competitions this campaign.

In their first match of the season, SuperSport lost 3-1 to Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-finals. Last Sunday, the Tshwane side were thrashed 4-0 by Amakhosi before losing 2-0 again to the Buccaneers midweek in a league clash.

The former Pirates captain admits Matsatsantsa needs to turn the corner this Saturday against Chiefs.

“We need to take each game as it comes. We have another one coming, we played them (Chiefs) in the Carling Knockout, we know what happened there. This is the time we need to be together and be strong.”

“If we had taken the chances we created, the complexion of the game changed,” said Hlatshwayo.

“With the results we have had it hasn’t been smooth sailing, playing both big teams (Chiefs and Pirates) in the space of a week,” he said as per The Citizen.

“Sometimes as players we want to play those games, if we win it is a different situation. But with the squad we have we don’t have that depth.”

Matsatsantsa takes on Chiefs in a Betway Premiership on Saturday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Amakhosi come into the match as favourites having dominated the Tshwane team in the Carling KO.

In recent weeks, Gavin Hunt has complained about the financial crisis the club was faced with. In the past two years, SuperSport has had to sell at least 10 players to Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and other clubs.

Will Gavin Hunt get sacked this season?
