Former Bidvest Wits midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase has revealed that there was a transfer opportunity he regrets not taking while he was playing for ‘The Clever Boys’.

Ntshangase was part of the Wits team that won the PSL title in the 2016/17 season, which was the club’s first-ever league title win.

During that time, Ntshangase played in 13 league games under the guidance of head coach Gavin Hunt.

At that time, Wits had a strong squad with legendary players such as Daine Klate, Sifiso Hlanti, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Buhle Mkwanazi, Thabang Monare, Dillon Sheppard, Siboniso Gaxa, Nazeer Allie, Eleazar Rodgers and Elias Pelembe.

WHICH CLUB PHUMLANI NTSHANGASE REGRETS NEVER JOINING?

The 29-year-old admitted “regret” over snubbing Orlando Pirates’ advances as he believed in Wits’ vision and liked the structure under the leadership of coach Hunt.

“You know, sometimes I look back and always think that if I had made a move at that time, maybe things would have been different because there were some calls from other clubs, especially Orlando Pirates,” Ntshangase told FARPost.

“Pirates, at that time, was a big call-up team that was more interested. However, I chose to stay at Wits because I liked the structure, and the team had a big vision.

“I think until today, I do regret it, but I don’t regret it 100% because, if you look at it, I’m very proud of myself for making it with one of the most overlooked teams in the league.”

Ntshangase continued: “You know, big teams are always expected to win all the cups like Pirates are doing now. But I was able to do that with just an average team back in the day.”

Following his time at Bidvest Wits, Ntshangase also played for teams like SuperSport United, Maritzburg United, Baroka FC, and most recently, Highbury FC.
