Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively have officially swept Taylor Swift into their headline-grabbing legal clash.
Justin Baldoni’s legal team subpoenaed Taylor Swift late this week to appear as a witness in the ongoing court battle over the 2024 film It Ends With Us.
TAYLOR SWIFT SUBPOENAED
Baldoni’s legal team, led by attorney Bryan Freedman, issued the subpoena on Friday, with the trial set for March 2026.
Baldoni is seeking a staggering $400 million (R7.39 billion), for defamation in his countersuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
The legal feud began when Lively sued Baldoni for emotional distress and lost wages. She alleges that therw was a campaign to destroy her reputation, according to Page Six.
WHY IS TAYLOR SWIFT INVOLVED?
According to Baldoni’s filings, Lively allegedly “weaponised” her friendship with Swift to gain creative control over the film.
Legal documents reference a night at Lively’s New York penthouse, where a “megacelebrity friend” praised Lively’s rewritten script.
Many believe this unnamed friend is Swift, though her name only appears in a text message, not as a direct participant.
TAYLOR SWIFT SPOKESPERSON SPEAKS OUT
Swift’s camp is not amused. In a statement, her spokesperson blasted the subpoena as a “tabloid clickbait” ploy:
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions.
Taylor Swift did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release.
Or she was travelling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history,” the spokesperson declared.
A DIVERSION TACTIC
Taylor Swift’s only connection to the film? She licensed her song My Tears Ricochet for the soundtrack, joining 19 other artists who did the same.
Her team insists the subpoena is an attempt to capitalise on her fame rather than focus on the facts of the case.
A STRAINED FRIENDSHIP
The drama has reportedly strained Taylor Swift’s friendship with Lively. Sources say Lively apologised to Swift for dragging her into the chaos.
“It was never Blake’s intention to harm their friendship,” said one insider. “Taylor appreciated the gesture and is ready to leave it behind”.
