Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (TMACC) has confirmed it will resume operations on Wednesday, 30 October after a fire erupted in its parking garage last week.

A lithium battery fire grounded the cableway last Thursday, leaving around 400 people stranded on the mountain.
Fire was contained
As reported by The South African website, it resulted in the biggest rescue operation in 64 years on the mountain.
‘We thank the public for their support and understanding. We again thank the many agencies and partners who helped on Thursday to bring the fire under control and to safely bring all 400 visitors down from the mountain,’ said Managing Director of TMACC, Wahida Parker.
TMACC has confirmed that all of the outlets, retail and food and beverage, will be open.
‘Our cable cars will return to service on Wednesday, depending on weather conditions.
‘All our commercial activities at the upper and lower stations will also be back in service.
‘We thank you for your understanding while investigations into last week’s fire continues.
‘We can confirm that the flames and fire was contained to the garage and did not reach the machinery that operate the movement of the cable cars, and it is safe for us to resume service,’ TMACC wrote in an Instagram post.
Request a refund
Meanwhile, ticket holders can use their tickets within a set period or request a refund.
In addition, those who celebrated their birthdays in October can redeem free tickets in November.
‘If you were not able to make use of a ticket you had bought, please remember that there is a window period in which to use it. You can apply for a refund if you prefer.
‘Our free birthday ticket offer will be extended into November – if your birthday was in October, you will have extra time to make use of your free return trip,’ Table Mountain Cableway confirmed.
