Sonia Booth advises women after divorce

Model and former businesswoman Sonia Booth is opening up like never before, shedding light on her very public split from ex-husband and former Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth.

Speaking on Showmax’s Untied with Relebogile Mabotja, Sonia offered a raw, unfiltered perspective on betrayal, healing, and the importance of truth in a world consumed by appearances.

Back in November 2022, Sonia made headlines after accusing Matthew of cheating, posting detailed allegations, including evidence, that pointed to an affair beginning on Valentine’s Day of that year.

Though Matthew denied the claims at the time, he has since made his new relationship with Bongani public.

Now, Sonia is using her platform to spark honest conversations around pain, growth, and sisterhood.

For her, telling her story was more than just a moment of revelation, it was part of her healing.

“Sharing my story is part of my journaling process and journaling heals,” she said candidly.

She hopes her journey serves as a wake-up call for others who might be idolising picture-perfect relationships from the outside.

“I want for them not to believe the façade of a happy and wholesome life just by observing from the outside, for them not to envy. You want the greener grass? Better have the stomach for the amount of manure it comes with,” she said.

Sonia also stressed the importance of authentic, supportive conversations among women, especially in a digital age obsessed with perfection.

“Social media has unearthed phoney and pretentious behaviours. We need to talk about real lives and daily struggles behind our smartphones. The lives without the filters,” she said.

“The days when you don’t have the strength to adult, where you just want to be left alone.”

When asked how women can better support each other, her response was clear: listen without judgment.

“Don’t tell me how to handle a situation because when faced with it, you will deal with it in a way you could never comprehend.”

Sonia believes Untied offers something meaningful, not just entertainment, but a chance to reflect, learn, and possibly avoid heartbreak.

“People might pick up red flags I probably missed in my life, then hopefully save themselves misery and heartache,” she said.
