SIYA KOLISI DITCHES WEDDING RING
On Saturday, 26 October, Siya Kolisi made his first public appearance since news of his split from wife, Rachel.
With all eyes on the Springboks captain, fans were quick to notice that he had removed his ringfrom his wedding finger. The popular player is known for wearing a green silicone ring, which is often worn by athletes.
Siya also sported an inspirational message handwritten on his wristband strapping – the sign of a cross.
Previously, the 33-year-old – who is a Christian – has written the name “Jesus.”
In an appearance on Dinner with Somizi in 2020, Somizi revealed that wearing a ring on his wedding finger was important to him.
He said, “With this ring, I don’t have an excuse to say I am training and take it off. It’s for playing, gyming, and everything. I wear it all the time”
‘VERY SENSITIVE SUBJECT’
Meanwhile, Sharks boss John Plumtree was adamant that Siya Kolisi’s personal circumstances would not affect his performance on the pitch.
Speaking ahead of the Munster clash, he said of the star player in a media briefing: “He’s fine and looking forward to the weekend. He’s had a really good week and trained well. It’s his own personal business, and it’s really got nothing to do with us.”
John added: “It’s a very sensitive subject around Siya, and better that we stay out [but] we’re here for him like you’d expect from a major organisation like the Sharks.”
