There was widespread reaction to last week’s bombshell announcement that Siya and Rachel Kolisi would be ‘amicably’ ending their eight-year marriage.
Made headlines
The news made headlines across sport and lifestyle publications around South Africa, particularly on The South African website.
Siya Kolisi was able to shift focus back to on-field matters this past Saturday as he started at No 8 for the Sharks in their United Rugby Championship (URC) clash against Munster at Hollywoodbets Kings Park.
Kolisi produced an impressive performance in the Sharks’ 41-24 win.
After the match, he returned to social media after a brief hiatus, sharing a video of him leaving the field.
“Thank you so much for all the support @sharksrugby family and the people of KZN great to be back here,” he commented after his comeback appearance for the Durban-based side.
Then on Sunday he posted a picture of him sitting alongside Sharks and Springbok team-mate – and best friend – Eben Etzebeth on board a flight as the Springboks headed off on their end-of-year tour.
Siya Kolisi will lead the Springboks on end-of-year tour
The Springboks have departed for a training camp in Jersey, the largest of the largest of the Channel Islands between England and France.
The group will then make the journey to Edinburgh next weekend for their opening Test of the tour.
The Springboks will face Scotland in Edinburgh (Sunday, 10 November), England in London (Saturday, 16 November) and Wales in Cardiff (Saturday, 23 November) on their traditional end-of-year tour.
Meanwhile, Rachel Kolisi has not posted since sharing a joint statement with Siya last Tuesday, which read: “We wanted to share some important news with you. After much reflection and open conversations, we have mutually decided to end our marriage. This decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us.
“While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known. We will also continue working together on the Foundation that means so much to us.
“We are grateful for the love, understanding, and support you’ve shown us, and we kindly ask for your respect as we navigate this transition.
“With gratitude and love, Siya and Rachel”
