‘We really need them for our final push. We ask them to keep on coming (to the stadium) to support us,’ said the Pirates defender.

Orlando Pirates central defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has called for the supporters to continue to fire up the Buccaneers, as they look for silverware on three fronts in the final two months of the season.

Pirates will take on MC Alger at Orlando Stadium in the second leg of their Caf Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday. Jose Riveiro’s side are favourites to progress after picking up a 1-0 win in Algiers in the first leg.

Pirates not distracted

The Buccaneers did not let the prospect of the second leg distract them on Saturday as they picked up a 1-0 win over Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Sibisi got the winning goal, bundling the ball home in the 67th minute after a mistake from City goalkeeper Brian Bwire.

“Polokwane City are not easy to play, especially at home,” said Sibisi after the game.

“Their front three run all game, we are clad we managed to keep a clean sheet and get all three points.”

Pirates played in front of a packed stadium, and will hope for more of the same on Wednesday, as well as for their Nedbank Cup semifinal against Marumo Gallants at Orlando Stadium on Sunday.

“The crowd were playing their part (in Polokwane) and really helping us,” added Sibisi.

“Thanks to them for coming in their numbers. We really need them for our final push. We ask them to keep on coming (to the stadium) to support us.”

Pirates will also be determined to win as many trophies as possible for their head coach Riveiro, who will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

The Buccaneers coach, meanwhile, has warned that the MC Alger tie is effectively only at half time.

“We have to play another 90 minutes in Orlando, and football is unpredictable. I think it’s going to be a very equal second game. Hopefully we can be better than them again in Johannesburg,” said Riveiro, after Mohau Nkota’s goal was enough to seal the win in the first leg.
