Several injured as MyCiti bus crashes on Loop Street

According to the City of Cape Town, the crash occurred at 07:49 on Wednesday morning and involved the D028 MyCiTi bus. The people carrier first struck another vehicle before veering onto the pavement and coming to a stop against a building.

“Seven injuries have been reported, including the driver and six passengers,” City officials told the Daily Voice.

“All injured persons were transported to hospital and the third-party driver was unharmed. The vehicle and bus were towed away from the accident scene.”

The operating company responsible for the bus will now conduct an investigation and submit a report to the City. The company is also required to report the incident to the South African Police Service.

Loop Street the second MyCiti collision this month

This collision comes just a week after a MyCiTi bus was involved in a multi-car pile up on the N2 highway last week.

Mayco Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, confirmed that Wednesday’s bus driver has since been suspended while investigations are underway.

“We can confirm that the driver has been charged for reckless and negligent driving, and has been suspended,” Quintas added.

“At this point in time, we do not know the cause[s] of the accident. This will form part of the investigation to be undertaken by the Vehicle Operating Company and SAPS.”
