Saleng’s ‘awful’ Orlando Pirates salary

Monnapule Saleng’s issues with Orlando Pirates could be down to what he’s earning with the Soweto giants. Could Kaizer Chiefs afford him?

What is Saleng earning with Orlando Pirates?

According to the 27-year-old winger’s childhood friend Boikanyo Maine, the 2022-2023 PSL Player of the Season is earning as little as R70k a month. That number, if true, pales in comparison with some of the league’s top earners, or indeed a few clubmates, primarily Patrick Maswanganyi, Deon Hotto, Evidence Makgopa and even Zakhele Lepasa.

Saleng’s folks weigh in

“He just wanted the team to pay him what he deserves,” said Saleng’s mother Makie Tsoeu.

His father has also expressed pain regarding his son’s plight.

“I’m in pain,” Thabo Tsoeu added.

“He is the one who cares for us at home, and seeing his profession in such a state crushes my heart.

“I wish he could tell me what is really bothering him before it’s too late. The problem is the contract. We would want him to stick with Pirates because it is one of the biggest clubs in the country.”

Pirates to help Kaizer Chiefs sign Nwabali?

According to Soccer Laduma, Chippa United want to sign Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Ethan Visagie. He’s yet to make his Bucs debut. Pirates have a surplus of goalkeepers on their books and are keen to send Visagie out on loan to gain valuable first-team experience. The Chilli Boys see 23-year-old Visagie as the perfect replacement for Stanley Nwabali, who they expect to leave. The Nigerian Number 1, Nwabali, is wanted across the PSL and in Europe. The 28-year-old, who stands at an impressive 1.96m tall, has made 19 appearances in the league this term.

Formation change for Pirates pays dividends in the Champions League

A trio of central defenders Tapelo Xoki, Nkosinathi Sibisi and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, dealt with everything thrown at them by a pacey MC Alger attack in a tricky first-leg tie. It was a pragmatic, sensible approach from head coach Jose Riveiro, and it paid dividends. We’re unlikely to see Riveiro use this system in Betway Premiership games. However, it could be just the ticket in tricky continental clashes. It’s yet another trait that Pirates fans love so much about the Spanish tactician: his adaptability.
