Elon Musk’s agreement that white South Africans should be allowed to immigrate to the US amid what he believes is racial discrimination has been met with mixed reactions.
The Pretoria-born businessman – the wealthiest man in the world – has criticised the SA government for promoting “openly racist laws.”
Many believe he has also propagated US President Donald Trump, who this week accused SA of “confiscating land” and treating “certain classes of people very badly.”
ELON MUSK SAYS ‘YES’ TO WHITE SOUTH AFRICANS
A day after questioning President Cyril Ramaphosa over his “openly racist laws” – no doubt related to orders that his company Starlink adhere to BEE standards should it wish to operate in SA – Elon Musk set off X with another controversial tweet.
The founder of the social media platform sided with a tweep who sympathised with white South Africans.
X user @jonatanpallesentweeted: “White South Africans are being persecuted for their race in their home country. Also, white South Africans are one of the few population groups that are fiscally positive when immigrating to Europe.”
The tweep added: “We should allow more immigration of white South Africans.”
The tweet caught the attention of Elon Musk, who responded, “Yes”.
This comes amid a backlash from US President Donald Trump’s vow to crack down on illegal – and legal – migrants, particularly to the administration he succeeded.
TO LEAVE OR NOT TO LEAVE?
Elon Musk’s response no doubt triggered a backlash from Americans who called out the “hypocrisy” amid Donald Trump’s deportation orders.
Closer to home, some South Africans were keen to take up the offer.
Others, like muso The Kiffness, were not convinced that leaving SA was in their best interests.
The outspoken entertainer responded to Elon Musk’s tweet with: “To be honest, I don’t want to live in America or Europe. I’d prefer to stay here.”
He added: “Instead of encouraging us to flee, help us fend against foreign influences like the WEF and pressure sanctions against the ANC for their racist laws.”
Other white South Africans agreed…
@realRobertCK: “No, Elon Musk, we don’t want to go to Europe or America. We want to stay in our home and build a future here. Help us in our fight for self-determination for South Africa’s communities so that we can build islands of prosperity all across Southern Africa.”
@uitdrifter:“Thanks, but no thanks. We’re not going anywhere, so please help us fight evil instead.”
@andrewjpking:“I could think of nothing worse than to leave South Africa.”
