South African airline CemAirhas confirmed that it has postponed the resumption of its commercial flights to and from Plettenberg Bay Airport until later in the year.
Collapse of agreement
In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Thursday, CemAir said: CemAir regrets to announce a delay in the anticipated resumption of scheduled commercial flights to and from Plettenberg Bay Airport. This was initially planned for April 2025 but has been postponed until at least September 2025.
This decision follows the recent collapse of the agreement between Bitou Municipality and Garden Route Aero (GRA), the appointed operator of Plettenberg Bay Airport. The management of the Airport has now returned to Bitou Municipality.
Plettenberg Bay Airport will not be able to accept commercial scheduled airline flights until runway and other repairs have been completed. At the time of writing these repairs are yet to commence.
CemAir is monitoring the situation and remains committed to resuming services to Plettenberg Bay once the airport meets the necessary safety and operational standards and is certified accordingly.
We understand the inconvenience this delay causes to our passengers and the broader Plettenberg Bay community. CemAir is dedicated to providing safe and reliable air travel, and we will continue to collaborate with local authorities to expedite the necessary airport upgrades.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this period and look forward to serving you again in the near future.
