Royal AM is making headlines after the first team reportedly resumed training after almost two months without training. Pictures of the team training have since flooded online.
ROYAL AM BACK IN TRAINING
In one of the now-viral photos, the club chairman and player Andile Mpisane was seen having some routines. However, against the now-viral photos, the club has yet to share an update to its fans.
Goal Line Magazine seemingly confirmed the news in a Facebook post that has gained thousands of comments and reactions since it was shared.
The football blog posted, “Royal AM players have returned to training at the Royal Ratch. But their PSL fixtures remain suspended until further notice.”
However, FARPost also reports that Royal AM soccer players officially resumed training on Wednesday following a meeting between the players and management.
The football club is under curatorship appointed by the South African Revenue Services (Sars) to recoup a tax debt linked to the club owner, Shauwn Mkhize.
With the club’s fixtures currently suspended, little is known about when the club will be in action.
BEING BARRED FROM TRAINING
In January, security guards barred Royal AM players and staff members from training at their training grounds in Pietermaritzburg. Football blog SS Sisonke Sportingalso shared the news on X.
The blog posted, “Royal AM’s ongoing turmoil deepens as coaches and staff still await salaries, with training sessions disrupted and players left locked out.
However, the recent training was the first since December 2024. Last month, an unnamed Royal Am player confirmed to the media that the team hadn’t trained since December 2024.
Speaking to TimesLive, the player said, “There is no training. We have not trained since December because the coaches have not been paid for two months.
The Royal AM player added, “When we got there [to the training base in Pietermaritzburg], the security guys were on strike and didn’t want to open the gate.
“They haven’t been paid for three months. The coaches have been at home because they are owed salaries.”
CLUB UNDER CURATORSHIP
Last year, MaMkhize also issued a statement sharing more details about the situation at the club.
Part of her shared press release reads, “The club’s management team, led by our CEO and General Manager, has been working diligently with the curator to secure the necessary permissions to release funds for salary payments.
“It has always been the ethos of Royal AM to prioritise the well-being of our personnel, and we remain dedicated to upholding that principle despite the current challenges.”
WILL ROYAL AM SURVIVE RELAGATION THIS SEASON?
