SASSA took to social media to inform its Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant beneficiaries that they should collect their payments next week.

The SRD grant beneficiaries usually receive their payments from the 25th of every month. However, with it being Christmas holidays at that time, SASSA confirmed that they would get paid early this month.

SASSA’S REMINDER TO SRD GRANT BENEFICIARIES

In a post shared on their Facebook page, SASSA stated that grant beneficiaries should first find out when they would receive their payments on the SRD website. They explained: “Clients are encouraged to view their status on the SRD website for the exact date that payment will reflect into their bank accounts.”

WHAT ARE THE DATES FOR DECEMBER SRD GRANTS?

The agency further revealed to the grant beneficiaries the dates they would receive payment. They will be paid over a period of seven days.

SASSA specifically stated that these dates don’t apply to everyone. They said: “Payments (for clients who are approved for the month of December 2024) will be processed from 17-23 December 2024.”

WARNING AGAINST EXTORTIONISTS AND SCAMMERS

The South African reported on 2 December 2024 that extortionists were targeting grant beneficiaries, especially during the festive season. They reportedly target the most vulnerable, the elderly and disabled. However, SRD grant beneficiaries are also at risk of becoming victims of this crime.

A warning was issued again regarding the R700 grant scam, The Citizen reported on 8 December 2024. The grant is reportedly for pensioners, however SASSA has denied its existence.

There are three main ways to receive grants; at selected retail stores, in your bank account or cash send. Recipients can go to Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers or Pick n Pay when choosing retail stores. SASSA has revealed that the safest way to receive the money is through getting it from your bank.
