RASSIE SHARES THROWBACK – CAN YOU SPOT HIM?

In a tweet, Rassie Erasmus shared an old picture of him as a young schoolboy at Hoërskool Despatch.

In one picture, the Springbok coach is pictured amongst his group of pals wearing their uniform. In another, the boys goof around in a playful pose.

The 52-year-old – who grew up in the small community in the Eastern Cape –  tweeted: “All the people in Despatch, but especially my six friends, played such a big role in forming my character and way of thinking!

He added: “The seven of us will have lots to talk about in March when we have a small reunion!”

He jokingly referred to his friends as “Dem boys.”

FROM SPRINGBOK TO WORLD’S BEST COACH

After playing professionally for the Free State Cheetahs and Gauteng Lions,  Rassie Erasmus made his Springbok debut in 1997.

He had 36 test match appearances and played until 2001. As a coach, he’s helped the Springbok win back-to-back World Cup titles in 2019 and 2023.

Now dubbed the unofficial “best rugby coach in the world,” Rassie once played alongside legends like Joost van der Westhuizen, Breyton Paulse, Percy Montgomery, and Nick Mallett.

Earlier this year, Rassie received an honorary doctorate from the North West University in the discipline of Coaching Science. He is also the recipient of the 2024 FW de Klerk Goodwill Award.
