Rape survivor Alison Botha has spoken up in hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm a few weeks ago.
ALISON BOTHA: ‘YOU ARE ALL PART OF MY LIFE’
Algoa FM reveals that Alison Botha’s legal representative Tania Koen said in a social media post on Sunday, 20 October that she’s opened her eyes.
“Alison has opened her eyes, and at times she communicates but any prediction is premature.”
“Her pre-existing medical conditions due to the attack have severely complicated an already severe medical scenario and keep creating other areas of concern as well.”
Koen adds that the bleeding on Botha’s brain is “severe”. She also reveals that medical tests will determine the full extent of what will be required for Alison’s rehabilitation.
Botha also talked to her Claire Collier this past weekend, according to Daily Maverick.
“You are all part of my life. It is so vital and obvious that not just once, not just twice, but many times we have all been touched by each other. So, thank you for reaching out to me now. Whoever you are, I thank you for being part of my community,” said Botha.
Doctors have said the pressure on her brain has been relieved with a resultant improvement in Alison’s speech and cognition.
WHY SHE NEEDED A BRAIN SURGERY
The 55-year-old rape survivor, Alison Botha suffered an aneurysm on 25 September after the onset of a severe headache.
Maroela Media reported that Botha was rushed to a state hospital in George after the aneurysm burst.
“She lay with a relatively large brain haemorrhage for three days before being transferred to a neuro unit in a hospital in Cape Town,” Dr Tiaan Eilerd told the publication.
Botha went through two brain surgeries and was rushed to the public George Hospital where she remained for three days before being transferred to a Cape Town hospital for surgery to halt the haemorrhage.
It is understood she has no medical aid and is unable to earn an income at this time.
A trust in her name has been established to assist with the considerable costs she is set to face.
