Ministers Ronald Lamola, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, John Steenhuisen, and Parks Tau will accompany President Cyril Ramaphosa to the United States, where he’ll meet President Donald Trump to discuss trade and address recent claims of “white genocide” in South Africa.

Ramaphosa aims to set the record straight on these falsehoods, which have led some South Africans to seek refuge in the US. The meeting presents an opportunity for both countries to reboot their relationship and focus on mutually beneficial trade agreements, according to the Presidency.

SOUTH AFRICAN DELEGATION SEEKS TO RESET US RELATIONS THROUGH HONEST DIALOGUE AND TRADE

“Just as he meets other people and I also meet other people, as state to state, we represent our people. There is no genocide in the country.”

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the delegation anticipates the issue of alleged ‘white genocide’ will be brought up during Ramaphosa’s meeting with US President Donald Trump.

“It will inspire a robust discussion because the president will affirm and assert the true nature of the state of our country, that there is no genocide, in fact, we are getting information about some of the individuals out of the 49, that some of them were living well off lives in South Africa, working and being productive.”

Magwenya said to eNCA that the delegation will push back against the perpetual lies that have been spread about the country and is positive that there are other areas of alignment that they will focus on to reset relations.

Ramaphosa will meet US President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday.

EFF CONDEMNS RAMAPHOSA’S US TRIP, ACCUSING HIM OF CAPITULATING TO TRUMP’S AGENDA

Last week, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa’s planned visit to the United States, describing it as “a submission” to a hostile foreign agenda.

The party called the purpose and timing of the visit “an attempt by Donald Trump to undermine South Africa and dictate the form and pace of our transformation initiatives.”

The EFF believes that President Ramaphosa should follow the example set by China in outmaneuvering Trump during his tariff war, to demonstrate his independence.

“South Africa is not for sale, and our policies are not up for negotiation. And our commitment to justice, for our people and the people of Palestine, will not be silenced.”
