South African actress and casting director Nolwazi Shange is embroiled in a legal battle, facing allegations of stealing a substantial amount of R700,000 from the production of Queen Modjadji.

This popular mzansi television series has been a staple on South African screens, but the allegations against Nolwazi have cast a shadow over the show’s success.

Shared by MDNNews, the accusations first surfaced in 2024, claiming that Nolwazi manipulated invoices from agencies supplying extras during her tenure as casting manager for Rhythm World, the production company behind Queen Modjadji.

Reports suggest that she altered banking details and amounts, redirecting the funds to an unknown company allegedly linked to her. This alleged fraudulent activity left the agencies unpaid, sparking an internal investigation by Rhythm World.

The investigation led to the opening of a fraud case, resulting in Nolwazi’s appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on March 26, 2025. She faces charges of fraud and cybercrime, with her next court appearance scheduled for May 23 at the Brixton Magistrates Court in Johannesburg.

Nolwazi’s legal team attempted to negotiate a repayment deal, but the talks stalled, prompting Rhythm World to proceed with legal action. She has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, claiming that her contract with Queen Modjadji ended three months before the alleged fraud was discovered. However, her defense has not quelled public scrutiny, and the case continues to generate widespread attention.

The allegations against Nolwazi have raised questions about accountability and transparency in the public interest.
