Orlando Pirates have seen a former player make a mammoth EPL move while there’s the latest on Jaedin Rhodes and Monnapule Saleng.

Orlando Pirates want to sign Rhodes

According to Soccer Laduma, Pirates want to sign Cape Town City’s exciting winger/playmaker Jaedin Rhodes. The 21-year-old has already featured in 17 games across all competitions this campaign. He’s bagged two goals and generally caught the eye with his flamboyance, flair and creative skills. Rhodes has 66 City appearances under his belt with eight goals and four assists. The Cape Town City youth product can operate on either flank and in the number 10 role or ‘the hole’ behind the central striker. He’s certainly a name to watch out for in the 2024-2025 season and beyond.

Munetsi makes a dream Premier League move

28-year-old Zimbabwean midfield maestro Marshall Munetsi has completed a deadline-day €18 million (R349 million) switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was most recently with Reims in France’s Ligue 1. He’s in line to debut away to Blackburn in the FA Cup on Sunday 09 Feb or at Anfield against Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday 16 Feb. It’s a sharp rise for a player who Pirates rejected only six years ago. Munetsi will earn a reported €51k (R1 million) per week with Wolves. According to KickOff, Munetsi was earning as little as R5k a month at one point in South Africa.

Did Pirates miss their chance to sell Saleng at his peak?

According to widespread reports, rumours of big-money offers from Europe for winger Monnapule Saleng, and the club’s choice to turn those down, have unsettled the player. It’s for that reason he’s been absent from matchday squads since November 2024. Standard Liege in Belgium and French Ligue 1 side Monaco proposed figures in the region of €2 million (R40 million) and Pirates stood firm. Will they regret not selling a player whose value could potentially dwindle as he continues to stay out of action? Saleng was absent as Pirates beat Chiefs in the past weekend’s Soweto Derby.
