As PSL’s summer transfer window draws closer, the rumours get louder.
Few things are busier than a sports agent’s phone, who are allowed to negotiate at any time but can only cement the deal in either January or between July 1 and September 20.
It’s been an exciting start to the season as Sundowns’ dominance, the pleasure of neutrals, looks to be challenged by Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs – like the good old days.
And both clubs could be busy this summer window.
PSL transfer gossip
Nasreddine Nabi has been public about adding another striker to AmaKhosi – Ranga Chivaviro is their only out-and-out attacker.
At the same time, Orlando Pirates’ recent MTN8 Cup success earned them over R20 million, which could tempt the Buccaneers to look at the market.
- Kaizer Chiefs will likely raise their offer for Cape Town’s Asanele Velebayi after several bids were rejected in the winter months.
- Orlando Pirates’ rising star Relebohile Mofokeng continues to attract international attention, with Glasgow Rangers and RB Salzburg monitoring the 19-year-old.
- Michael Olunga is a dream signing for Nabi, but with a current valuation of R180 million, it seems unlikely they will land the 30-year-old striker.
- Itumeleng Khune has been vocal about his desire to return to the PSL and is willing to take a pay cut to secure a deal. His old club, Kaizer Chiefs, remains uninterested.
A tricky transfer market
According to Nabi, there is limited talent in the African market as Europe continues to poach the continent’s most promising stars.
Nabi explain to SABC Sport, saying, “For myself, I think look now, in October we don’t play, then we have November and December. Then in January, the window opens. I need to scout for the quality that I need,”
“I think my strikers today and last game, they scored. I agree with you, the market in Africa is very, very short, you have maybe three, four, or five good players but all the clubs in Africa take them like Esperance, Al Ahly, Zamalek. The market in Africa is not positive in this moment.”
