PSL transfer rumours: Khiba, Velebayi, Salum, Appollis

Some players are attracting several PSL clubs.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are linked with an array of world-class players – in some cases, they are after the same signature.

The Soweto teams have become accustomed to landing Africa’s best talent, but with one side doing considerably better than the other – Pirates are first in the league while Chiefs lie eighth – we could see more players opting for the Buccaneers.

Transfer gossip

  • TS Galaxy Defender Thato Khiba is wanted by Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC. The 28-year-old is tipped to move this summer as his side looks set to be in the relegation scrap all season.
  • Asanele Velebayi is another Kaizer Chiefs target who could move this January. AmaKhosi management tried to land the winger during the offseason but had several bids rejected.
  • Reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns are competing with Chiefs for Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum.
  • Oswin Appollis is likely to leave Polokwane City this summer. Glamour Boys are the favourites to land the Bafana Bafana star.

More on the Velebayi situation

Veleabayi’s agent, Lance Davids, offered insight on the back and forth between Chiefs and Cape Town months ago, saying, “So, of course, there was a lot of back and forth – Chiefs put in an offer, and the value was too low for Cape Town Spurs,

“Chiefs came back with a second offer and gave, in my opinion, a valuation that was very fair with add-ons, and they also didn’t accept that. They thought the valuation was low, and then they stopped just there.

“In my opinion, I thought the valuation that Cape Town Spurs was looking at for Velebayi, compared to Oswin Appollis, it’s a no-brainer – you can’t compare [the two players’ value]. At this point, what did Oswin achieved in the last year?

“So I think the valuation of Velebayi was crazy; I think Chiefs, to be honest, was very fair on their proposal and, in my opinion, they could have still add some more add-ons.

“Of course, they did not because they thought they were also fair on their proposal, and the deal fell through… I’ll be honest, at first Cape Town Spurs wanted R12 million, they came down to R10 million, and Chiefs’ offer was R5 million plus players.”
