From Kaizer Chiefs to Orlando Pirates, there’s plenty of noise surrounding PSL’s top clubs heading into January’s transfer window.

The Soweto Giants are looking to emulate the depth of Mamelodi Sundowns, who are aiming for eight league titles in a row.

Transfer rumours

  • Kaizer Chiefs are still eager to sign Asanele Velebayi, 21, after having multiple offers rejected in the summer.
  • DR Congo’s Fiston Mayele is another target of Nasreddine Nabi, who wants another attacking option at the club.
  • Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaKhosi are both monitoring Tanzanian international Feisal Salum, who will be pushed to make his decision in January.
  • Orlando Pirates are open to offers for striker Tshegofatso Mabasa as they look to maximise the 28-year-old’s value before it declines.

Additional updates on Salum and Velebayi

According to a SoccerLaduma source, Sundowns’ have been monitoring Salum for a while, but the Chiefs are ready to swoop in.

“There could be more changes in the playing staff at Chiefs in January. You know the Tanzanian midfielder that Mamelodi Sundowns have been following, Feisal Salum? Kaizer is now after him.

“Actually, the assistant coach Cedric Kaze is believed to have proposed him to the club as both he and Nabi know him from Yanga. He played under them before joining Azam and he feels there is a role he can play at the club hence his suggestion to the team. It’s just that at Chiefs for now when they are ready they will approach Azam. But there is that talk at the club now about Feisal Salum.”

Lance Davids, Velebayi’s agent provided some context surrounding the Glamour Boys and Cape Town FC’s back and forth in the PSL winter break, telling SABC Sport, there was a lot of back and forth – Chiefs put in an offer, and the value was too low for Cape Town Spurs,

“Chiefs came back with a second offer and gave, in my opinion, a valuation that was very fair with add-ons, and they also didn’t accept that. They thought the valuation was low, and then they stopped just there.

“In my opinion, I thought the valuation that Cape Town Spurs was looking at for Velebayi, compared to Oswin Appollis, it’s a no-brainer – you can’t compare [the two players’ value]. At this point, what did Oswin achieved in the last year?

“So I think the valuation of Velebayi was crazy; I think Chiefs, to be honest, was very fair on their proposal and, in my opinion, they could have still add some more add-ons.

“Of course, they did not because they thought they were also fair on their proposal, and the deal fell through… I’ll be honest, at first Cape Town Spurs wanted R12 million, they came down to R10 million, and Chiefs’ offer was R5 million plus players.”
