All eyes were on President Cyril Ramaphosa at the State of the Nation (SONA) address when he was expected to appear with his wife, Tshepo Motsepe.
However, the man affectionately dubbed “Cupcake” was photographed seemingly arriving with a much younger woman instead – who was she?
SONA 2025: WHO WAS THE WOMAN WITH PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA?
On the SONA red carpet, ministers and MPs stopped to pose for pictures with their significant others. The deputy president arrived with his wife, Humile, who turned heads in her green gown.
In an image posted on X, President Cyril Ramaphosa was spotted with a woman who was not his wife, Tshepo. The young woman wore a tiger print satin dress.
“Where’s Cupcake’s wife? He arrived with a random woman”, tweeted @Inenekazi1.

However, the mystery of the woman’s identity was revealed – she is his daughter, Maushudu Ramaphosa.
In another video, it was clear that Tshepo – the sister of billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe – did, in fact, attend SONA. The medical doctor was spotted holding her husband’s hand as she was escorted into a side door of the Cape Town City Hall.
FAMILY LIFE
Cyril Ramaphosa is married to Tshepo Motsepe, his third wife. Tshepo – a medical doctor – is the sister of billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe.
The couple has three children: son Tumelo, a businessman and avid gym enthusiast, and daughters Keneilwe, an architect, and Mashudu, a law student.
The President also has two other children from previous marriages. They are; firstborn son, Andile, from his first wife Hope, and daughter Tulisa, whose mother was Cyril’s second wife, Nomazizi Mtshotshisana, who died from an illness in 2008.
In 2017, Cyril Ramaphosa admitted to having an affair with a woman from Limpopo in a sit-down interview with the Sunday Times.
He said: “I had a relationship with only one person, and it ended. I dealt with it with my wife. We now have a professional relationship.”
