Pitso Mosimane loses first match in Iran, blames players

Esteghlal FC head coach Pitso Mosimane lashed out at his players after losing his first match.

The former Al Ahly coach was appointed Esteghlal’s new coach earlier this month. He lost 3-1 to Kheybar Khorramabad in his first match in charge starting his tenure in the Persian Gulf Pro League on a losing note.

Mosimane arrived at the club during their AFC Champions League 1-0 defeat to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr but was not in the dugout.

“What can I say after this defeat? My team is not mentally well! I have never seen a team so low. Maybe some players don’t realize how big of a name is on their kit. They should not play like this,” Pitso Mosimane said.

“A playmaker midfielder? We have to start making changes, but the most important thing is the mentality of the players. Attitudes must change. This issue is more important than changing personnel. We have to bring players who want to win games,” he said as per iDiski Times.

Pitso Mosimane feeling the heat already?

“This result shows that we did not fight hard enough and we are not ready. We need to fight. What are these signs? Changes must be made. The culture is not right. We can change coaches every week and if they don’t want to win, they will always have the same situation.”

Esteghlal are currently 12th in a 16-team Persian Gulf Pro League log so far this season. The Iranian side have collected just eight points from their first eight matches. Pitso Mosimane has a huge task on his hands but given his experience, he should manage to get the club into the top five.

Can Pitso revive his new club?
