Pitso lays Esteghlal challenges bare after third successive loss

Pitso Mosimane has laid bare the challenges he is currently facing at his new Iranian club Esteghlal FC.

Mosimane and his technical team accepted the coaching job at the struggling Esteghlal side a few weeks ago.

However, they are yet to collect any points since joining the club, and Mosimane has revealed some of the reasons for that.

Esteghlal’s 3-0 loss to Al Hilal marked Mosimane’s third in a row, and the 60-year-old cited injuries to key players as a factor.

Furthermore, Mosimane said he has only had five training sessions with Esteghlal players, and that also has an effect.

However, he believes his team is starting to understand how he wants them to play, saying he saw improvements against Al Hilal.

PITSO ON HIS EARLY STRUGGLES AT ESTEGHLAL

“Today we saw the big differences between the two teams, and we also lost the services of three main players, and this is not an excuse. We accept the result because we faced a great team,” he said, as per Koora, according to Soccer Laduma.

“I am unlucky because a number of players have been injured, and it is true that this is part of the game, but it makes the job of any coach difficult.

“Al Hilal is a big team that I have faced before in the Club World Cup, and when you coach a team like them your job becomes easier. For example, I should not tell [Joao] Cancelo how to play crosses, or tell Mitrovic how to score.

“I only had five training sessions and three matches with Esteghlal, and I feel that we have started to develop, and I accepted the job knowing the problems surrounding the team.”
