Phala Phala: MK’s Hlophe claims judges and prosecutors are captured

By Zukile Majova

Umkhonto Wesizwe deputy president John Hlophe has told the nation that judges and prosecutors have been captured and now act for President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This comes after the National Prosecuting Authority declined to prosecute anyone implicated in the 2020 robbery cover-up at Ramaphosa’s luxury Phala Phala game farm.

After reviewing all statements from suspects and potential witnesses, the prosecutors said the case was not strong enough to secure a conviction in court.

The SA Reserve Bank and the SA Revenue Service have cleared Ramaphosa of tax evasion and money laundering charges.

An investigation by the Public Protector also cleared Ramaphosa of any wrongdoing in the $580,000 (over R10-million) robbery.

Hlophe, who now leads the official opposition in parliament, said he was shocked that the NPA had dropped the entire case.

“The money was found hidden under the mattress, and it was not disclosed during the year when tax was paid.

“Clearly, it was tax evasion. The president evaded tax and there are no two ways about it. He is guilty of tax evasion,” said Hlophe.

He said this was the latest example of how the judiciary and the NPA had been captured.

“These institutions are being controlled, they are being monitored, and they are being remote controlled by those who support the president.

“There is a simple English term for it; those institutions like NPA are captured.”

Hlophe said the MK party would not let the Phala Phala robbery cover-up rest and would raise it in parliament on Thursday.

The MK party deputy president, whose bid to participate in the Judicial Service Commission was rejected by the courts, said he was not surprised “because the judiciary is also captured”.
