Percy Tau gets rude awakening in Qatar SC debut!

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau suffered a 5-1 defeat – against Al Nasr – in his first game under Youssef Safri, which just happened to be the Qatar-UAE Super Cup final.

The 30-year-old winger was put straight into the starting line-up but could not help his side lift the trophy.

Divisionally, Qatar SC sit eleventh in the standings (out of twelve) with ten points from eleven games.

Tau arrived from league leaders Al Ahly, who recently punched their ticket into the CAF Champions League quarter-finals despite losing to Orlando Pirates, a tournament his new club can only dream of playing in.

It will be interesting to see how the former Mamelodi Sundowns star handles the drop in objectives, realising that the chance of adding a third Champions League medal to his repertoire is slowly slipping away.

Now, his main concern is avoiding relegation.

Safri full of praise

Following Tau’s arrival, Safri wasted no time singing his praises, saying, “I thank the club’s management for signing a great player like Percy Tau,

“Everyone knows his importance and capabilities, and he does not need to adapt, especially since he plays among distinguished players, such as Javi Martinez and Badr Banoun,

“This is the best time to sign a player like Percy, he is a big name and will have an impact tomorrow.”

Tau’s Al Ahly farewell note

“Dear Al Ahly people, from day one, I was here to make history, and together we made it,” wrote Tau.

“You, my beloved ones, have been my home and my inspiration for the years I have been with you. Together, we have made great and unforgettable memories.

“Together, we have won and celebrated 12 incredible Championships. I am really pleased to have achieved all of the great accolades with you without saving a single drop of sweat,” Tau added.

“Each victory was made sweeter by your unwavering support and by seeing the smiles all over your faces. Your cheers, your passion, and your love have been the driving force behind my every moment on the pitch. Leaving is never easy, but I carry with me memories of joy, triumph, and unity for representing ‘The Club of Century’ with this generation of great players.

“Many thanks to the president, management, coaches, staff, the players, and everyone who contributes to the club. Thank you for being my family, my inspiration, and my greatest supporter. This isn’t a goodbye but a heartfelt “see you later.”
