Orlando Pirates are looking to extend the deal of one of their key players that’s been linked to Europe.
Pirates have seen two of their key players become the subjects of interests in Europe ahead of the January window.
Pirates stars linked with moves abroad
One player that has attracted European scouts for over a year now is young Relebohile Mofokeng. Already last year Pirates announced the then teenager was invited for trials with English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers. That move did not seem to materialise but he was later linked with Glasgow Rangers and Red Bull Salzburg. The most recent links have been blockbuster ones linking him to Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
While it remains to be seen what happens with Mofokeng and Barcelona, Pirates have another situation to lookout for. Another one of their talisman in Patrick Maswanganyi has found himself linked with a return to his former club Oliveirense. The Portuguese side play in the 2nd tier league and are currently in last place.
Buccaneers looking to tie down Maswanganyi amid Oliveirense talk
They were rumoured to be willing to spend up to R23 million for Maswanganyi but Pirates want more. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, the interest from Oliveirense has prompted contract renewal talks for “Tito”.
“The new proposed deal for Tito (Maswanganyi) is believed to be a straight two years and it will count from July 2026 which means they (Pirates) will first exercise the one-year that will take this current deal to June 2026, then activate the two new years until June 2028. They are just making sure that they secure his services mainly with the interest from Portugal (Oliveirense) . They are putting the value in him so that even if they sell him it’s not at a low price as he will have a long-term contract with the club,” said the source.
Pirates fans are you happy that Maswanganyi could extend his contract at the club? Or should they allow him to go to Europe? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings below.
