Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng in therapy?

It’s been a tumultuous time for Orlando Pirates protagonist Monnapule Saleng, who hasn’t featured in a matchday squad since December 7.

Performances were not the reason behind his exile, starting the season in scintillating fashion with two goals in his opening three league games, but rather a result of unsuccessful negotiations linked to salary demands.

However, following Saleng’s return to training for the first time this year, it appears the saga is finally over, but the scars will stay.

The advantages of therapy

With Saleng in mind, former Gallants winger Masibusane Zongo has relayed the importance of therapy, saying, “Therapy and people talking to you, I only got that when I got to Platinum Stars, they used to organise people to talk to us, some ex-players.

“I’d advise players from today that if they get a chance to get help, they should listen to those people, because they are talking from experience. Maybe when I was young, I would have been part of those players who don’t want to listen.

“Most players don’t like to share, especially private and confidential things but I’d advise them to go and open up and talk, because once you bottle things inside, trust me those thing are going to kill you slowly but surely.”

There’s nothing suggesting that Saleng needs or is attending therapy sessions, but it wouldn’t be overly presumptuous to assume four months of public scrutiny takes a toll on ones psyche.
