Orlando Pirates have reportedly reached a breakthrough in contract talks with star winger Monnapule Saleng, who is now set to stay at the club until June 2028. A source revealed that a key meeting took place over the weekend. Where the parties resolved previous misunderstandings and agreed on a new three-year deal.
“There was a meeting between all the involved parties over the weekend where it’s believed that whatever misunderstandings which were there were apparently squashed and a new agreement was agreed,” said a source. “No. Apparently it’s not (about) exercising an option. It’s believed to be an open, new three-year contract.”
Pirates wasted no time in formalising the deal. Ensuring the former Player of the Season remains a crucial part of their squad for years to come.
Spain tour decision still up in the air
The club has already finalised the contract renewal. However, Orlando Pirates has not yet confirmed whether Saleng will join the team for their pre-season camp in Spain.
“What we know and what we believe is that the club will be making the final decision. Whether he should travel to Spain with the team,” the source explained.
Saleng has reportedly been training with the squad since their return from the off-season break. And all signs point to a positive atmosphere around him at the club. However, the technical team may decide to keep him on a specialised fitness programme instead. Allowing him to reach optimal condition ahead of the new campaign.
Pirates supporters can breathe easy
The news of Saleng’s contract extension comes as a major boost to Pirates supporters. Many of whom had grown anxious over his future. The club now looks set to build around the influential winger as they prepare for a competitive 2025/2026 campaign.
