Upcoming Pirates fixtures as they seek a treble
The Sea Robbers must wait until next weekend to resume their quest to win the Betway Premiership. They’ve started with three wins from three, so the signs are good. Upcoming are three league fixtures on the bounce and then a tricky trip to Algeria where they could be on a collision course with former Cape Town City man Khanyisa Mayo. Caf Champions League holders Al Ahly visit Orlando Stadium in early December in a crunch group clash which you simply can’t miss. Matchday six is arguably the toughest assignment of the entire group when Pirates meet Al Ahly in Egypt on the weekend of 17-19 January. Put that one in the diary.

Orlando Pirates chase breakout Bafana star
Jose Riveiro’s MTN8 winners will offer midfield duo Goodman Mosele and Siphelo Baloni as makeweights to sign Bafana Bafana and Chippa breakout star Sinoxolo Kwayiba. The 24-year-old recently featured off the bench for South Africa in Afcon qualifiers in a 5-0 win against Congo.
Benni doubts Hugo Broos
Benni McCarthy was a recent guest on the On The Whistle Podcast where he discussed Hugo Broos’ credentials as the Bafana boss.
“It’s a good generation of players, a lot of young players breaking through. So it was a massive opportunity for Bafana Bafana [to win the 2023 AFCON]. They had a group of talented players coming through and they found themselves in a lucrative position to be in the semi-final,
“But there are a little bit of shortages, but you know you accept it because Bafana over the last few years have been nowhere. They have not qualified for any World Cups, they have underachieved quite a lot.
“So the fact that they have gone on to the semi-final of AFCON is good. I think with the current squad, the current generation of players that they have to choose from, they should be there and there about,
“I don’t know if they have the right manager, and if not, whichever right man comes in, hopefully, he can take this group of players to the next level,” McCarthy said via Goal.
