Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng heading to Europe?

Orlando Pirates are flying high at the moment.

Sat first in the league, three points ahead of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns and fourteen points beyond Kaizer Chiefs, Jose Riveiro’s side has the Orlando Stadium rocking.

The Buccaneers are on a historic run, winning their opening seven league games for the first time in its history – that figure could rise to eight when they play Stellenbosch on December 1.

Kick-off: 15:30

Mofokeng to stay at Pirates (for now)

At the forefront of Orlando Pirates impressive early season cameo is wonderkind Relehobile Mofokeng, who netted the final goal against their upcoming Cape Winelands opponents in the MTN8 Cup final.

He is the epitome of flair, able to dance around defenders and provide the killer blow when presented the opportunity.

With the world at his feet, Mofokeng has been attracting international interest since his 2023/24 breakout season, with the likes of Glasgow Rangers and RB Salzburg keeping tabs on the 20-year-old sensation.

Albeit young, the attacker’s former coach, Mandla Qhogi, believes now is the time for the Orlando Pirates academy product to flock the nest, telling SoccerLaduma, “For me, it will be a good time for him to go overseas. It is the right time and there are things that he would learn if he were to move now at this stage of his career. The more we keep him this side it could mean that we are delaying him. He is 20, and I think it is the right time for him to move if he has to be sold overseas.”

It’s almost certain that Mofokeng will remain at Orlando Pirates after the January transfer window; however, there is little optimism for the same outcome after the season concludes.

With Jose Riverio rumoured to leave once the season concludes, Mofokeng may feel then is the right time for him to do the same rather than risking the unknown of a new coach.

Do you think Mofokeng will leave Orlando Pirates?
