Orlando Pirates are looking to strengthen their attack in the current window with a few names mentioned.
Pirates will be looking to bolster their frontline as they tackle three tournaments at the start of 2025.
Pirates have been looking for a striker
It is no secret that Pirates are looking to add a striker to their set, this was the case in the previous window too. After being linked with a whole host of strikers. These being the likes of Ashley Cupido, Lungelo Nguse, Tremaine Eastmond, Andy Boyeli, Sabelo Ndizinisa and Freddy Kouablan. In the end, none of these number nines joined the Buccaneers.
Pirates would then go in to the season with last season’s top goal scorer Tshegofatso Mbasa and Evidence Makgopa. Supporting the duo was expected to be another Bafana Bafanainternational in Zakhele Lepasa as well as former youth International Boitumelo Radiopane. But with the injury to Lepasa and Radiopane still being raw, it has largely been Mabasa and Makgopa holding forte.
During the current window, Pirates have been linked with Oswin Appollis, who is more of a wide player. As they resume their chase for a natural number, Soccer-Laduma, reports the Buccaneers have identified Richards Baystriker Yanela Mbuthuma.
Mbuthuma the latest target
“Yes, they have been looking for a striker for some time now and though the only one they have really identified is Yanela Mbuthuma from Richards Bay United. Pirates would want to Rnd a striker who will fit in the team’s playing system. The scouts and the technical team are monitoring strikers both locally and in other leagues in Africa,” said the source to the same publication.
Mbuthuma has been consistent and a shining light for Richards Bay, who are often struggling. It remains to be seen if Pirates will end up making a bid for the player ahead of the second-half of the season. Buccaneers, would you be excited to see him joining your club?
