Orlando Pirates eye Stellenbosch star amidst high-stakes transfer talks.

Pirates are setting their sights on Jayden Adams, the rising star from Stellenbosch FC. With an impressive track record and a hefty price tag, Adams has captured the attention of some of South Africa’s top football clubs. But will Pirates’ ambitions align with the demands of the Cape Winelands club?

At just 23 years old, Jayden Adams has already made a name for himself in South African football. Joining Stellenbosch FC as a teenager when the club was still in the lower divisions, Adams worked his way up through their youth academy. His talent shone brightest during his time in the DStv Diski Challenge squad, where he played a key role in clinching both the DDC title and the NextGen competition two years ago.

Adams made his senior debut against Chippa United in August 2020, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the team. With 135 appearances across all competitions, seven goals, and 10 assists, Adams’ contributions have been instrumental to Stellenbosch’s success. His performances also earned him a spot on the Bafana Bafana national team, where he debuted in a resounding 4-0 victory over Namibia during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Pirates’ ambitious pursuit

Orlando Pirates aren’t the first to express interest in Adams. Mamelodi Sundowns previously made four bids for the midfielder, with the highest offer reaching R25 million. However, Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadie reportedly valued Adams closer to R40 million, rejecting Sundowns’ final attempt on deadline day.

A close source revealed details of the negotiations, stating, “On the final day, Stellenbosch rejected R25 million for Jayden Adams from Mamelodi Sundowns. Yes, it is, but allegedly Rob Benadie wanted something close to R40 million.”

Now, Pirates face the challenge of meeting these steep demands. A package combining cash and a player could sweeten the deal, especially as Stellenbosch FC is actively seeking a striker to bolster their squad.

The injury to key striker Lehlogonolo Mojela has left Stellenbosch FC with a significant gap in their attacking lineup. Head coach Steve Barker recently confirmed the club’s need for reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.

“We are lacking a little bit upfront due to Lehlogonolo Mojela’s injury. So, it is difficult for Ashley Cupido to play week in and week out,” Barker explained. “We are in need of a striker and are currently looking at certain options. Hopefully, we can strengthen our squad with a player in the middle or another winger that we desperately need.”

This urgency to secure attacking talent could make Stellenbosch more open to a trade, giving Pirates a potential advantage in their pursuit of Adams.

A transfer to watch

Jayden Adams’ potential move to Orlando Pirates is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about transfers in South African football. With the stakes high and both clubs holding firm on their priorities, the coming weeks will be crucial. Can the Buccaneers secure the services of one of Stellenbosch’s brightest stars? Only time will tell, but fans can expect an intense negotiation process filled with twists and turns.
