Orlando Pirates FC have been rocked by the tragic passing of one of their rising stars.

19-year-old defender Setjhaba Mofokeng has lost his life, the club confirmed via an official statement on Friday 20 December 2024.

Setjhaba Mofokeng played for the club’s Diski Challenge side last season after joining the Buccaneers from Brits FC however he was loaned out to ABC Motsepe League side Wits FC this season.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Setjhaba Mofokeng. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.Setjhaba, who was on loan at Wits at the time of his passing, was part of our 2023/24 DDC team,” an official club statement read.

“The 19-year-old joined Orlando Pirates from Brits Soccer Academy in the North West Province in 2022 and initially played for the club’s U19 side,” an IDiski Times report read.

“But last season, the left-back featured for the DStv Diski Challenge team before being loaned out to ABC Motsepe League side Wits FC this campaign.”
