Orlando Pirates overcame Sinoxolo Kwayiba’s Chippa United last night thanks to a Nkosinathi Sibisi goal.

The 29-year-old captain neatly headed in Mofokeng’s corner at the near post, putting the visitors up seconds before the half-time whistle – neither side could convert in the second half.

Following Mamelodi Sundowns’ shock draw to Golden Arrows, Orlando Pirates lie sixteen points behind the reigning champions with four games in hand.

Sibisi suspended

Sibisi received his eighth yellow card in the fifteenth minute against the Chilli Boys, triggering a one-game suspension, making him ineligible for Orlando Pirates’ upcoming league game against Stellenbosch on March 11.

Orlando Pirates-Riveiro saga

Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro, whose contract runs out at the end of June, has yet to renew his deal.

The Buccaneers tabled a three-year extension at the beginning of the season, but the Spanish coach revealed that he will make his decision at the end of the season, fuelling speculation of a possible exit.

“There is an offer for the coach to continue for another three years, but he has asked to wait until the end of the season. His main wish is to win the league, and if that happens, he may leave because he misses home,” a source explained.

“The league title may decide the coach’s future. That’s what’s believed as things stand,

“Nothing has been agreed upon because the coach hasn’t made up his mind. He has made it clear that he misses home and family. And will only consider his future at the end of the season. However, the club has already opened talks with his representatives, hoping for the best outcome.”
