Just when we thought we had said everything there is to say about arguably the biggest pop star to come out of South Africa, she goes and shows us that the sky is merely a pit stop and not the limit. Continuing to fly mzansi’s flag high, Tyla has scored a total of eight nominations for the upcoming Billboard Music Awards.
As she continues to ride the wave of the success of the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut album, it is safe to say Tyla is suffering from success as the kids like to say. She recently released the highly anticipated music video for her smash hit ‘Push 2 Start’ which formed part of the songs added from the deluxe edition.
Furthermore, this youngster recently bagged a partnership where she would be releasing her custom-made ‘Tyger’ Stanley Cup, which has been making waves across the world with the young population eager to get their hands on one.
Tyla’s impressive work ethic and success have ensured that every time there are major awards set to take place, South Africans as well as all the Tyga’s across the world tune in to see which awards their favourite artist has been nominated for because they know that it is not a matter of if, but a matter of how many categories or nominations she will walk away with.
Set to air on 12 December, the Billboard Music Awards have revealed their final list of nominations and Tyla has stood out from her peers after bagging a total of eight nominations. These include nominations for Top R&B Artist, Top Afrobeats Artist, Top R&B Song, Top R&B Album and Top R&B Female Artist Awards.
However, the most impressive part of this whole situation is the fact that Tyla has managed to achieve a milestone that no other artist has accomplished in BMA history, which is to score three nominations in the same category.

As expected, Tyla’s fans have taken to social media to sing their favourite artist’s praises as she continues to prove any doubters wrong, they have also revealed that they will do everything in their power to ensure that the ‘Water’ hit-maker walks away with the most Billboard Awards that night, and knowing South Africans, we believe them.

Conversely, it appears the Tyla ‘hate train’ appears to be gaining more momentum as more users voice their opposition to the South African superstar constantly being included in Afrobeats categories, particularly after she spoke out at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). They attribute this to colourism, as they see fellow Afrobeats artist Ayra Starr not getting her necessary flowers as a skinned woman.
Congratulations but they must fix the error she’s not doing afrobeats
