No CAF Champions League football for Kaizer Chiefs next season

Kaizer Chiefs will NOT play CAF Champions League football next season even if they win all their remaining games.

And that’s because of the expulsion of Royal AM from the PSL which directly affected at least 10 teams.

Chiefs are one of those teams after having picked up a point in the one match they played against Royal AM.

Now, the latest developments means Chiefs lost one point after their 2-2 draw against Royal AM last year.

As a result, Kaizer Chiefs now have 29 points instead of 30 after 23 league matches.

Should Chiefs, highly unlikely to happen, win their remaining five league games they would then be on 44 points after 28 games.

Currently, second-placed Orlando Pirates are already on 46 points after 20 games, and this means Chiefs will NOT catch them.

The only spot Chiefs can still fight for is in the CAF Confederation Cup – and there are two ways to go about it.

Firstly, Amakhosi can still finish third on the Betway Premiership log and qualify for CAF Confederation Cup but they will have to win their matches and rely on other teams’ results to go their way.

Secondly, the Glamour Boys should win the Nedbank Cup to secure their place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The last time Chiefs played continental football was during the 2020-21 season when they reached the CAF Champions League final.

However, they came second best as they were beaten 3-0 by Egyptian giants Al Ahly in Morocco.
