Actress Nandi Nyembe yet to receive funds donated for her

Legendary South African actress Nandi Nyembe has revealed that, despite a fundraising event held in her name, she has yet to receive the money raised to support her.

The veteran star, widely known for her iconic roles in Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, and more recently Adulting, opened up about her ongoing financial struggles, weeks after South Africans responded to her heartfelt appeal for help.

In a candid update shared via Sunday World, Nyembe expressed her disappointment, saying, “It is disheartening that the money raised to help me has not reached me yet. It is winter, and I am in need of a heater and the basics to get me going.”

Back in April, a fundraising event took place at Disoufeng in Soweto, intended to raise financial support for the beloved actress.

The initiative followed an emotional video in which Nyembe appealed for assistance, prompting fans across the country to rally behind her, some even donating directly to her bank account.

However, two months later, the actress is still waiting. According to her, the delay appears to be tied to administrative approvals involving the Gauteng Film Commission.

“I had no idea that the Gauteng Film Commission is the one who needs to give the go-ahead with regards to me getting the money,” she explained.

Nyembe also mentioned that Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, who donated R20,000 to her cause in April, has not yet followed through on his promise to visit her at home.
