Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed what he told his striker Ranga Chivaviro during halftime following his team’s emphatic 4-0 win over SuperSport United.

Goals by Gaston Sirino, Yusuf Maart, Ashley du Preez and Chivaviro were enough to send Amakhosi to the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout. The big striker missed two clear-cut chances in the first half but made up for that in the second half.

After the match, Nabi revealed to SuperSport TV that he promised Chivaviro he would eventually get a goal.

“Sometimes, a striker loses easy [chances], but this is football. I don’t need an emotional reaction like the fans. My responsibility is to protect my players. I pushed him, and I promised him that he would score. Thank you, Allah, he scored,” the Chiefs coach said.

Amakhosi scored their first goal in the first half but the floodgate opened after half time.

“We were not very good in the first half; we had to make tactical adjustments in the second half. But it’s a Cup game, and you need just to win it. It seems like they did their homework for this game,” Nabi said.

Chiefs coach Nabi continues to get the best of Chivaviro

“We had difficulties with our build-up in the first half. They put pressure on our two holding midfielders, who usually are the ones who give us the link between the defence and attacking players.”

Having emerged victorious at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night, Chiefs will now wait for the draw to find out their next opponents. As for Chivaviro, he remains their most consistent striker under Nbai with three goals.
