Kaizer Chiefshead coach Nasreddine Nabijustified his decision to subbed off defender Bradley Cross30 minutes into the game against Stellenbosch FC.

Amakhosi came from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory on Wednesday evening. Cross, who got a rare start following his injury, was subbed off after 30 minutes when the scores were level. Speaking after the match, Nabi explained why he took out his defender.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Bradley Cross was subbed after 30 minutes

“We started well the first five minutes, we had control but we noticed that there was a little bit of confusion with the system of a back-three, which gave the opportunity to the opponent to take control of the game and to have even more possession.

“That’s why we made the tactical change by taking off the left-back and putting on a winger. It’s not easy against such a good team like Stellenbosch to come back from behind and score two. That requires character, and today we had it,” Nabi said as per GOAL.

Cross was visibly upset after coming out early and the left-back had to be consoled by his teammates on the bench.

Nabi has had a defender or two injured since taking over at Chiefs in July. One of the injured players is left-back Bongani Sam, who was signed from rivals Orlando Pirates. Cross was ruled out for several weeks but made a return this past weekend against Cape Town City.

Has Cross impressed you this season or should Nabi get another left back in Jan?
