On 14 July 2025, Tiffany Meek walked up the dock of Roodeport Magistrate’s Court, west of Johannesburg. She is accused of murdering her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Leek Meek.

Last month, Meek was reported missing after being dropped off from school. Hours later, his lifeless body was found half-naked near a block of flats in Fleurhof, where both he and his mother lived.

“The investigating and tracking teams have been hard at work and following all possible leads and gathering all evidence that may lead us to the killer of Jayden,” said Deputy Minister of Police, Shela Bosheilo.

A BREAKTHROUGH IN THE JAYDEN-LEE MEEK CASE

On Friday, 11 July 2025, the police confirmed that they had made an arrest in the Jayden-Lee Meek case. At the time the suspect was only identified as ‘a close relative of the family’.

“This was not an easy case, we received a lot of backlash on our response and the time it took to ensure a breakthrough,” said Bosheilo.

She further said Meek’s case necessitated that detectives conduct a thorough investigation. It was important that they present a case that would be able to stand in court.

A LITANY OF CHARGES FOR SUSPECTED KILLER MOM

Tiffany Meek has been charged for murder, defeating the ends of justice, crimen injuria and obstructing the course of justice.

“At this stage, we cannot rule out the possibility of more arrests as investigations into the murder of Jayden Lee continues,” said Bosheilo.

The mother remains in custody and will be back in court on 18 July for a bail application. In the meantime, police have urged community members to report any type of abuse that they witness.
