Kaizer Chiefs’ sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Junior, has dismissed allegations that PSL clubs are obstructing the Soweto giants from conducting business.
“To be fair, I don’t even entertain that we’re here all the other clubs are our partners. We are stakeholders in the league, we need each other. They need us. We need them. And it’s a situation of us coming to negotiations,” he told iDiski Times.
“They always will have their standpoint. They want to keep their best players. If you had to ask me, anybody coming to ask, you know, ‘sell us Shabalala’, I would say, No.
“It’s part of negotiations. It’s part of the industry. It’s part of the business. They have their goals they want to achieve. We have ours. So it’s about us engaging in a positive way and trying your best you can to achieve the goals.
“So we respect them and respect they respect us. And it’s part of the industry, and you find that, you know, worldwide.”
These claims arose after Kaizer Chiefs’ inability to sign Cape Town Spurs Asenele Velebayi, which were then heightened by Polokwane’s reluctance to sell Oswin Appollis.
But, as Motaung implies, it’s only natural for a club to try to hold on to their top talent.
Matlou to stay?
Kaizer Chiefs have informed injury-prone midfielder George Matlou that he’ll have to earn his contract extension, otherwise will face free agency after the season concludes.
“For now the ball is in his court,” a Siya source confirmed.
“The club has made it clear to him that the games he will play between now and the of the season determine his future,
“They have told him that they understand that the injury has disrupted his progress at the club and the technical team has given him the chance to play then it’s now up to him to save his own career,” the source added.
“So now it’s all up to him whether he will extend his contract or not. At least the club [Kaizer Chiefs] has communicated with him what they expect from him and that is to prove himself.”
