Monnapule Saleng-Orlando Pirates drama takes a dark turn

The Monnapule Saleng-Orlando Pirates saga is taking a toll on the coveted Bafana winger.

“He’s struggling,” a source told FARPost. “He’s not taking this Pirates thing well. Mentally, he’s not in the best place.”

According to reports, the 26-year-old is demanding an increase to his R70,000 per week salary. The Bloemhof-born star hasn’t kicked a ball for Orlando Pirates since December 7 in the CAF Champions League as tensions rapidly grew between the parties.

Three months later, and there is no resolve in sight. In fact, the situation has gotten worse; an offseason exit looks likely.

“He’s not happy with how he has been treated by Pirates,” a source revealed. “He feels he deserves better, especially considering what he has done for the club. Even this season, he was performing well before everything changed. He just wants a fair deal from Pirates, that’s all.”

The former PSL Player of the Year feels his contract doesn’t reflect his output. Saleng’s friend, Boikanyo Maine, confirmed this, saying, “If he was not an important asset, Bafana could not have called him. We are requesting that Pirates consider what he wants,

“It’s unfair, imagine getting R70 000 but your contribution in most of the matches speaks volumes, while somebody [else] is getting R500 000.”

Riveiro to leave?

Question marks surround the future of Jose Riveiro at Orlando Pirates as the Spanish tactician is yet to make his decision.

“There is an offer for the coach to continue for another three years, but he has asked to wait until the end of the season. His main wish is to win the league, and if that happens, he may leave because he misses home,” a source explained.

“The league title may decide the coach’s future. That’s what’s believed as things stand,

“Nothing has been agreed upon because the coach hasn’t made up his mind. He has made it clear that he misses home and family. And will only consider his future at the end of the season. However, the club has already opened talks with his representatives, hoping for the best outcome.”
