Former Mamelodi Sundowns Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed which player he pushed to get signed.

The 52-year-old was given the boot this week with former Esperance coach Miguel De Azevedo Cardoso taking over. Mngqithi was in charge of the Tshwane for just six months but failed to improve the club this season.

Mngqithi revealed several signings were made by Sundowns prior to Rulani Mokwena’s sacking.

“I wouldn’t want to come out of this platform with that saying ‘no, no I didn’t know anything’ because they I would be lying and I don’t want to lie,” he said.

Ex-Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi says he pushed for Rayners

“Yes, this initiative took place before me and when I got the opportunity, the only player that I personally requested from the club was Iqraam.

“That one is the player that I personally requested and pushed.

“Fortunately I got the support of a lot of people within the club and that’s why it happened and I appreciate that,” Mngqithi said as per iDiski Times.

Manqoba Mngqithi lost two cup comeptitions in a space of weeks which led to Sundowns sacking him after six months. His top signing Rayners has become an instant success scoring 10 goals in 14 games for Masandawana.
