Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has provided updates on the injuries of Erwin Saavedra, Kegan Johannes, and Arthur Sales.

Johannes, who joined Sundowns from SuperSport United at the beginning of the season, has yet to make his debut for the club due to injury.

Saavedra has made one appearance, while Sales has featured in three matches.

Mngqithi revealed that Johannes suffered a setback in training, delaying his return to full fitness. However, he is expected to resume full training next week.

“Kegan is very close. We are hoping for him to start full training probably, let’s say, next week, but he is very close,” said Mngqithi after his side’s 2-1 win over Royal AM on Wednesday evening.

“There are a lot of activities that have taken place, the bios I think they have given him to the conditioning guys now, and he is very close. He had a setback, he was already far ahead and he had a setback in training that took him backwards a little bit.

“He even played one friendly against Sekhukhune, if I’m not mistaken, but unfortunately, after that, he had a setback and had to start back again.”

Meanwhile, Sales is also nearing a return, with Mngqithi indicating that he could be available for selection next week.

SALES TO RETURN TO ACTION NEXT WEEK

“He [Arthur Sales] is also very close,” added Manqoba Mngqithi.

“He’s back in full training, he’s training with the team, he should be back, if not this weekend, probably next weekend he might be back.

“But it will depend on the competition within the group because he’s coming from an injury, and other players are in top form at the moment.”

Mngqithi also mentioned that Saavedra was close to making the squad for the recent match against Royal AM, as he has been training with the team for some time.

“Erwin Saavedra is training fully, he was very close to make the squad for this match,” revealed Mngqithi.

“But he’s looking very good in training.”
