MK Party takes on AfriForum for treason: Trump aftermath escalates

Former president Jacob Zuma’s MK Party has announced that it will be taking AfriForum on for treason amid the aftermath of US President Donald Trump’s Executive Order.

The order had announced that US aid to South Africa would be ceased in addition to a plan being formulated to allow Afrikaners to have refugee status in the country. Now, the MK Party has entered into a legal battle over what it feels is treason.

MK Party takes on AfriForum

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has released a statement revealing that it will be laying charges against AfriForum in Cape Town on Monday amid the outcry over Trump’s decision.

“The uMkhonto weSizwe party will open a case of treason against AfriForum at the Cape Town Central Police Station on 28 Buitenkant St, Cape Town City Center.” MK Party Statement

This comes in response to backlash against AfriForum in the wake of Trump’s condemnation of the government over land expropriation and claims of a genocide against Afrikaner people in the country.

AfriForum blames Ramaphosa for Trump’s actions

AfriForum, on the other hand, insists that US President Donald Trump has merely reacted to laws President Cyril Ramphosa and the ANC-led government have opted to put into place.

During a media briefing on the matter, AfriForuminsisted that President Cyril Ramaphosa and ANC leadership should bear the ‘full blame’ for Donald Trump’s decision to cease funding to South Africa.

They further argued that the ruling party attempting to blame AfriForum for the US President’s statements is a ‘clear attempt from Ramaphosa and the ANC to try to exculpate themselves from the negative consequences of their own thoughtless, extremist policy course and actions’.

“Unfortunately, Ramaphosa ignored this request. Ramaphosa, not AfriForum, signed this Act therefore the president must now bear full responsibility for the bitter fruit that this country and its people must now reap,” AfriForum head Kallie Kriel

Concern mounts over illicit land grabs

AfriFourm Community Safety spokesperson Jacques Broodryk highlighted the group’s increasing concern over the breach of property rights in South Africa.

With illicit land grabs allegedly increasing, Broodryk says that the ANC officials connected to these alleged crimes are a major issue.

“Although the government thus far have not been directly responsible for land grabs, they are also to blame for it because police, in many cases, fail to act against occupiers and legislation makes it difficult to remove land grabbers from occupied land. On top of that ANC councillors have in the past been connected to illegal land grabs,” says Broodryk.
