- The MK Party appointed new provincial leaders, formalising its Youth and Women’s Leagues, set to launch on Youth Day and Women’s Day.
- Leaders underwent skills audits, with strict rules against dual roles or parallel structures, as disciplinary committees aim to enforce party unity.
The MK Party has appointed new provincial leaders in a bid to formalise party structures at provincial and regional level.
The announcement was made during a media briefing on the detachment of leaders in Gauteng and Limpopo, held in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The current convener of the MK Youth League in the eThekwini region, Qiniso Cibane, has been appointed as the league’s national convenor.
He fills the shoes of former convener Bonginkosi Khanyile who was recalled last year in April for his controversial views when defending the party. Khanyile is currently serving as an ordinary member.
The current party spokesperson, Nkateko Mkhabela, has been appointed the league’s national coordinator.
Meanwhile Nothando Malanga was appointed the national convenor of the Women’s League and Lindiwe Makubu its national coordinator.
The Youth League is expected to launch on 16 June and the Women’s League on 9 August – Youth Day and Women’s Day respectively.
The party’s secretary general Floyd Shivambu said those appointed in the new structures do not hold dual responsibilities in the party.
“Those who have been appointed in Parliament or on provincial or regional level will not be appointed to serve in leadership structures as per the constitution of the party.
“We have conducted skills audits of all the appointed members; they have demonstrated leadership qualities,” he said.
Veteran lawyer Advocate Dali Mpofu has been appointed chairperson of the national disciplinary committee.
Deputy party president John Hlophe will chair the national disciplinary committee of appeals.
Shivambu said all the structures operating before these appointments will cease to exist.
“We won’t tolerate ill-discipline – no one is permitted to constitute a parallel structure or process other than what is mandated by the organisation,” he said.
“We will decisively act against all elements that seek to defy the decisions of the upper structures.”
